Lovell Canyon

We took a ride out in this canyon looking for critters and wildflowers. This is what we found. A tarantula nest! Actually there were lots of these nests. The Mom is in there with her babies. It was kind of creepy to say the least. You can see things moving inside! This pic gives you an idea of how big the nests are.
A shot of a Joshua Tree blooming
Close to the middle of this pic (the white cactus) is called Jumping cactus because if you get to close it attacks you! Jumps right at you!!!!!!!!!!

KT's one year anniversary

Well it has been a year today that KT left us and left a big hole in our hearts. He was more like a kid instead of a cat. I mean we even played hide and seek with him! But he did like to hunt. In his last year he caught 15 ground squirrels and who knows what else. And he beat up his share of other cats. But he was the most loving cat I have ever seen. We miss you Baby Cakes. KT's favorite nap spot!
That's typical KT
We received thi letter in the mail about 6 weeks after KT passed. Our wonderful vet Dr. Sally donated in KT's name to a great charity to help other kitties in need. KT touched alot of poeple and still is I'm sure.................................

We got the truck out!

We were picked up by Kevin and the heavy equipment about noon today. I had to ride on CP's lap all the way out there. We took him to our truck which was about an hour away. The truck was still there. Nobody else would take that road! I don't know what this machine is called but it sure did a great job. Kevin had us out of there in about a half hour.
Clarence and me being pulled out. YES !!!!!! NO MORE DIRT ROADS!!!!!!

We had a bad day!

We packed a wonderful picnic this morning and headed to the desert! AND GOT STUCK Cell phone reads NO SERVICE HOLY CRAP !!!!!! We are off the main road about a half mile or so. This is CP trying to get unstuck! The weather was great! But nothing worked and we had to hike it out to the road. We tried putting more weight in the bed of the truck with rocks.
We are talking about maybe 5 cars going by in 20 minutes in the middle of nowhere. I did have a loaded hand gun in my purse. Finally a Fedex truck stopped and went to a little town of Shoshone and sent us a highway patrolman named Tim. I never got to ride in a patrol car before with a concealed and loaded gun! I was just a little nervous. So we called Lori, CP's daughter and she sent us a tow truck from Pahrump, about 45 min. away
AND IT GOT STUCK !!!!! Well we did get out of there after about a half hour and we were dropped off our RV at about five thirty and $187 dollars later. We called Lori again and I think we have to rent a backhoe to go get our truck. So glad Lori is the manager for Hertz rental equipment!
Anyway, if you look about in the middle of this pic...that white speck is the roof of our truck, close as we could get to it wish us luck tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our feathery Friends

We put out a feeder on the ladder in the back of the RV for the hummers, but we are also feeding finches. This little guy we call "Sleeper" because she comes and stays and will not give up her spot no matter what ! We have been watching her for weeks.... She hangs upside down to watch who is coming !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Leave me alone !
My feeder! Go away! She will not give in! Too funny! I mean, this is a male and she still won't give in !

Hoover Dam

We took another trip over to the Hoover Dam. Takes about an hour and half to get there. See far up in the sky? That bridge will be finished in 2 years. I t is almost 900 feet above the Colorado River! We are standing on the dam taking this pic. The span in the middle will be almost 2000 feet long and it will be in ONE section!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to drive over it. More info click on http://www.hooverdambypass.org/ Another view
Looking down

Looking up! In that yellow basket is two workers. Can you even imagine? Looking down at the bottom of the dam. I f you double click and make the pic big you will see a man to the left. Look for his shadow.

the rest of the trip

See the rocks stacked up? That is to hold up the road. Old mining town that had about 300 people in August 1926. By February 1927 they were all gone. Some false info about the mine.
Just beautiful rock formations and we are driving through an old creekbed
Some places were pretty tight forthe ford. These cliffs go upabout 300 ft. in some places.
Just amazing.... We are glad we went and glad we don't have to go again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A trip to remember

This is the way to Titus Canyon in Death Valley. We left at 7 in the morning and reached the dirt road at 9 am. We had heard from other people that this is really a great place to go see. And it is!There was a dusting of snow on the mountains ahead, but we thought nothing of it. We reached the top, we thought, and it was beautiful. About 5200 ft here. What a view !!
We went around a bend in the road and holy crap we said! Across the valley is the road we have to take. Oh, did I mention? The road is one way....No turning back !! We put our seat belts on.
This is the view looking down after we made it over the road in that last pic again holy crap
And we hit ice and snow! This is shot through the windshield as CP was driving. Next blog the rest of the story.................................

We did make it home in time to go to Las Vegas Speedway to watch the Nascar testing. #88 Earnhart's new ride. This was just getting started again after Tony Stewart lost a tire
And we didn't know what to watch... the cars or the jets....Nellis Airport is right next door.

Then we headed over to Hidden Valley and then went back to the Lake House because hwy 20 was closed due to snow and accidents. This pic is the next day when we did get through, barely. So we then headed to Rolling Hills to spend the night before going on up to the Redding area and to treat ourselves to a nice dinner. Well, we got stuck there for 2 days because of more snow. By now this snow stuff is starting to cost some big bucks we didn't count on. We also bought some snow chains. But it was worth it...... Grandpa great holding his first great grandchild Audrina Marie
The four generations CP, daughter Kathy, new mom Petra and baby Audrina

Still a "Hotty" at 75! We had to make an unplanned trip to California which we then decided to make a fun trip out of it. This my Mom's 75th Birthday at the Lake House in Oroville. Helping Dwight make his shot!
Just a few drinks before dinner
Cute pic of Dwight with my grand niece Miss Lily Anne
I know what she is thinking.....When can I wear this?
